Privacy Policy

Vaara is a meal-planning app. This page explains what information it collects, why, and what you can do about it. It's written to describe what the app actually does, not generic boilerplate. See our Terms of Service for the rules of using Vaara itself.

What we collect

• Account info: your name, email, city, household size, and dietary preference, given when you set up your profile.
• Sign-in: if you use Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email from Google to identify your account. We never receive your Google password.
• Your meal plans and preferences: the dishes you plan, edit, swap, or send to a cook, and patterns in what you keep or avoid, used to make future suggestions more relevant to your household.
• Photos you upload: if you use the fridge-scan feature, the photo is sent to our AI provider to identify ingredients and is not stored by us afterward.
• Voice notes: if you use the cook voice-translation feature, the audio is sent to our translation provider (Sarvam AI) to produce a text translation and is not stored by us afterward.
• Payment information: if you subscribe, payment is handled entirely by Razorpay (India) or PayPal (international). We never see or store your card or bank details — we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded.
• Basic usage data: which features you use and when, so we can tell what's working and fix what isn't. This is not sold or shared with advertisers.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data. We share the minimum necessary with these services to make the app work:

• Anthropic — powers AI-generated meal suggestions and recipe ideas.
• Sarvam AI — powers voice note translation for the cook-communication feature.
• Google — powers optional sign-in.
• Razorpay — processes payments for subscriptions (India).
• PayPal — processes payments for subscriptions (international).
• Netlify — hosts the app and stores your account data.

Linked household accounts

If you choose to link your account with a family member's (to share diet information for meal planning), only your dietary preference and name become visible to them — nothing else about your account. Linking requires both people to explicitly agree; nothing is shared automatically.

Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we use your browser's push subscription to send you reminders. You can turn this off at any time through your browser or device settings.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data to advertisers.
• We don't show ads.
• We don't share your meal plans or photos publicly unless you explicitly choose to (like posting to the community recipe exchange).

Your choices

• You can use Vaara as a guest without signing in. In that case, your profile and meal plan are stored on your device. Separately, the app sends usage events to our servers even as a guest: which features were used, your city setting, your timezone, and technical error details, so we can find and fix problems.
• You can request that your account and associated data be deleted by contacting us (see below).
• You can unlink a household connection at any time.

Children's privacy

Vaara is intended for adults planning meals for their household. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
